My favourite Linux wallpapers (so far).

I maintain that computers are the hot rods of the 21st century, and changing up your desktop background is the first and easiest step to pimping your ride.

Over the past week I’ve been giving the latest and greatest KDE desktop a play on my desktop machine, and the lightweight PCLinuxOS ZenMini a trial on my netbook. As of this morning, I have nuked both drives and put Ubuntu proper on the desktop and Xubuntu on my Eee PC…

A kwick tour of Kubuntu Netbook Edition.

Just for kicks I installed Kubuntu Netbook Edition on my Eee PC. What follows is a brief visual overview of what you can expect should you do the same.

Note that this isn’t the latest and greatest KDE but rather the latest and greatest Kubuntu (10.04.1), with version 4.42 of KDE. I tried to invoke the netbook workspace from an installation from the KDE 4.5 Live CD but it repeatedly crashed my machine so I installed Kubuntu for netbooks instead…

Ubootnu versus the neck beards.

Late last night saw an effective end to what I’m calling “the neck beard incursion”. It started last Saturday with a rather unfortunate post on the popular site OMGUbuntu.co.uk, and ended amicably with the author’s apology.

Three strikes with Ubuntu video editors.

The problem may well be that my all-in-one Lenovo isn’t quite up to the task of rendering video and audio edits in real time; you could also make a fairly compelling case that I barely know what I’m doing. The fact is, I really, really wanted to tell you how easy it is to edit and render video with Ubuntu Linux, but I’m not sure I can — at least not yet…
