The LG G5 will make its début at Mobile World Congress on February 21st, the same day that Samsung is set to announce its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. But if the render you see here turns out to be true, then LG’s 2016 flagship will have a design unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
CNET Korea reports that the G5 will incorporate both a metal body and removable battery with the slide-out drawer that you see here. And that’s not all; there are additional rumours of a “magic slot”—a proprietary expansion port to plug in accessories like an external keyboard, VR headset, audio amplifier…?
Okay LG, you’ve definitely got my attention.
The G5’s more mundane specs include a 5.3-inch QHD screen with the secondary display similar to the V10, a 16 megapixel dual rear camera (!) and the requisite fingerprint scanner. Like the Samsung Galaxies, the LG will be one of the first devices on the market powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 processor.
Back to the design, the best quote that the tech press has been able to find comes from an anonymous source close to LG:
Their next phone is going to have a lot of competitors slapping their foreheads wondering why they hadn’t thought of this idea first. Or maybe they have but no one has been able to make it work like LG has…
Who’s excited for the LG G5?
