I spent 9/11 with The Infidel.

… And I LOLed. Quite a few times, if I’m honest.

I’m talking, of course, about the 2010 British comedy, available for download now and currently being rolled out on (ugh) DVD-Video around the world.

While I don’t want to spoil its premise for you, ask yourself: “What’s the worst possible thing that could happen to a moderate Muslim with a son of marrying age?” — and then immediately follow up with: “No, even worse than that…”

The genius of this film is that it somehow manages to wrap up Islam vs. Israel into a tidy little package and deliver it as light entertainment. That the struggle and tension is seen through the eyes of two relatively ineffectual characters probably has something to do with it. And it’s telling that Arab and Jew are still sniping at each other as the closing credits start to roll.

It’s not a perfect film by any means — there’s an entirely unsatisfying payoff to the lead character’s obsession with a fictional new wave pop star from the 1980s. But said pop-star’s signature tune is actually pretty good. Have a listen (and look) for yourself, from the opening few minutes of the film:

There’s an opportunity here for The Infidel’s producers to get some additional revenue from their film — if they don’t go all DMCA on this video and have it yanked, that is. From the comments to this upload:

Damn why is this song not released as asingle. Can you get the original song on a soundtracks list to the? film?

sombody should? really talk to the actor in order to make it a single, its really really nice.Know any agents? 😛

does? dis song even exist or what cause i looked 4 dis song but cant find it

Okay, so maybe they can’t spell or use proper grammar (on YouTube? Really?) but they look like they might be at least be willing to open up their wallets a little more.

Your move, people who produced The Infidel…
